Port of Dover “revival project” creates £135 million tender opportunity

The Port of Dover Harbour Board is inviting construction firms to bid for contracts to work on the Western Docks “revival” project. This £135 million contract involves the construction of a new cargo terminal, waterfront development and marina.

The “revival project” is set to start on a 24-month programme in the final quarter of 2016.

The decision to tender the project follows the signing of a pre-construction deal with Thornton & Lowe training attendees, Graham Construction, to develop the infrastructure design for the redevelopment.

Plans for the construction project include:

  • Extensive demolition and removal of existing structures
  • Part demolition of the Dunkirk jetty
  • Creating a 20 metre wide navigation channel leading to the yacht harbour in the Wellington Dock

The new access channel will include a bascule bridge and lock gates. The port’s existing tidal basin access will also be infilled to construct two new berths for ferries.
