Three bidders needed for £1billion Transport for London (TFL) Silvertown Tunnel project

untitledEast London road tunnel project to take four years to construct with 25 year operational phase

Transport for London (TFL) are starting the hunt for at least three main bidders for the £1billion Silvertown road tunnel, to be situated just east of the Blackwell Tunnel.

This tunnel looks to connect the A1020 Silvertown Way to the north with the A102 Blackwall Tunnel approach to the South. At present, the plan is to charge road users to help fund the scheme and reduce congestion in the area.

Construction is expected to begin in 2018/2019 and will aim for completion in late 2022 or early 2023.

TfL will award the project as a design, build, finance and maintenance deal in east London, which will include a four-and-a-half-year construction phase, followed by 25 years in operational phase.

Bidders will have until the end of November to submit prequalification documents. This presents those within several areas of the construction industry with the opportunity to be part of this landmark project for TfL.
