McAlpine wins contract for the peninsula London hotel

Sir Robert McAlpine is understood to have won the contract to build the new Peninsula London hotel on the prestigious Hyde Park corner.

The plans from joint developers Grosvenor and Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels indicate replacing the existing 1950s and 1960s office block with a £500million luxury hotel and top-end apartments. The developers aim to begin the project, designed by British-based architect Hopkins Architects, in summer 2017.

Construction information specialist Glenigan is reporting McAlpine as winning contractor on the high-profile project, which aims to become a landmark within the London hotel sector. The hotel will also be named as the sister hotel to Hong Kong’s Peninsula, and will boast 28 apartments as well as a 30m square internal ‘Palazzo-stle’ courtyard.
