COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS REPAIR AND RESTORATION WORKS TO THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER
The series of repairs to the Palace of Westminster are estimated to cost between £3.5 billion and £3.9 billion, however these numbers are not set in stone.
The improvements are described by the Palace’s own committee as essential due to “an impending crisis which we cannot responsibly ignore” – such as a major fire or a succession of failures making parliament uninhabitable. The works would mean MPs would have to move to the Department of Health building on Whitehall and peers would shift to the Queen Elizabeth Conference centre across Parliament Square.
These major repairs will look to remedy on-going issues concerning the plumbing, wiring heating and other core infrastructure. This could present multiple trades with the opportunity to bid for contract and supply chain opportunities in this landmark construction tender.
